I recently read an article about the middle class “shrinking” on yahoo’s web page. I was most surprised by the the 22 reasons why it was. I can not find the link to the original article, but the one thing it did point out was the top 1% of Americans own most of America’s assets/wealth through stocks and shares. I can remember when I was much younger, my family elders telling me to invest in the markets. I wonder if I had headed that warning if I would still be …

Of course, the concept of white or blonde illegal aliens is apparently beyond the capacity of the people passing the laws or the editors at the Herald. But nearly 600,000 of those in the United States illegally were estimated to come from Europe or Canada in 2005; and while I knew many Irish, English and other Europeans who had overstayed their visas when I was growing up in New York, I never heard of a raid of an Irish bar, except when ATF or the FBI were trying to trap Irish Republican …

The car bomb discovered in Times Square would probably have killed or maimed many people, police officials and federal investigators said Sunday as they began assembling evidence collected from the homemade device, video surveillance footage and the vehicle itself to determine who attempted the attack on a warm spring evening in the heart of New York City.
Investigators acknowledged that much about the bombing attempt, the most serious in the United States since the Christmas Day incident aboard a commercial flight bound for Detroit, …

Just what we needed during this recession – SPENDING MORE! Obama and his liberal cronies have no idea what they’re doing. From their world apology tour, to this ridiculous spending – Wasteful spending at that. What happened to all the Bush bashers who were complaining about war costs? I don’t hear them condemning Obama for his frivolous spending (which is double what Bush spent his first year) In fiscal 2009 the federal government spent $3.52 trillion

The death penalty has been debated by civilizations throughout history. What crimes, if any, are so heinous in nature as to justify killing another person and what system of justice can be created to prevent further killing are challenging questions.
While capital punishment has been banned throughout parts of the world, execution remains a legal option in many countries. The United States, for example, executed 1,057 people from 1977 through 2006 primarily by means of lethal injection. Those executions generally took place with popular support among Americans who …

Government run programs, unions, etc. are outperformed by a wide margin by the free and open market. Research and development of new products and drugs are driven by the potential of profit. If there is no profit, no financial gain, then there is no drive to develop new products. If socialized medicine is implemented in the United States, our research and development of new drugs will go down, and our status as a world power, specifically, and world power in the development of medicine will fall.
Politicians are driven by power …

I continue to be intrigued by the BLS job loss data from the current recession. The chart at the left is a slightly revised version of a chart I put together for another discussion on the web. It indicates the number of jobs gained / lost each month since the recession started in December of 2007. I updated the chart with the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics today when I noticed this bit of propaganda on the OFA web site. That looks really familiar to me – …

I compiled a pro/con list on whether or not we as a county should legalize marijuana.
So put this in your pipe and smoke it.
Yes
The drug generally isn’t more harmful than alcohol or tobacco if used in moderation.
Limiting the use of the drug intrudes on personal freedom.
Legalization would mean a lower price; thus, related crimes (like theft) would be reduced.
There are medical benefits such as the those for cancer patients.
Street justice related to drug disputes would be reduced.
It could be a source of additional tax revenues.
Police and court resources would be freed …
